Dry air in your house?

As the winter cold has set in you inevitably experience the discomfort of dry air in your house. Dry mouth and nasal passages, dry skin, and static shock are all symptoms of dry air. We’ve come to expect this reality each winter but what causes it? Does a homes heating system dry out the air? The short answer is no. The real cause of dry air is in the relationship between air temperature and the amount of water it can hold. Colder temperatures decrease water capacity in the air whereas warmer air can hold a lot of moisture. This explains why it can feel muggy in the summer and bone dry in the winter. Winter time dry air is unavoidable but it can be offest by a humidifier just high humidity can be prevented with a dehumidifier.
