What to do when your AC fan is running but no cold air is coming out of the vents:
One of the most common cooling problems we hear is that the air conditioner is running but the home is just not comfortable. Here are a few things you can check before calling a professional.
- Check the furnace filter. A dirty air filter will slow the air flow causing air to linger longer inside your ductwork. If the air feels weak out of the vents this may be your issue. Depending on the filter it may need to be changed on a monthly basis.
- Inspect the outdoor unit. Do you see the unit covered in dirt, grass, leaves, or other debris? If so you must clean the air conditioner. If there are trees or bushes smothering the unit you need to trim them. Is the outside fan spinning? If the unit is on but the fan is not spinning you will need to call a professional.
- Another possibility is that the system is low on refrigerant. Unfortunately this is caused by a leak in the system. A trained professional will need to diagnose, locate, and repair the leak.
