Lake St. Louis, voted #9 on the CNN Money report on the “Best places to live in the U.S” in 2009, is a planned community located around 2 lakes between Highway 70 and Highway 64. This area began development in 1961 by Ellis Ellerman and Ira Nathan and was originally designed to be a “weekend resort area”, but since the area became such a desired location to live year round, developers soon built as many homes as needed to accommodate the request of future residents. In 1977, Lake St. Louis became a 4th class city under the revised statutes of Missouri and the first Mayor, Howard Haddock was elected.
