Wentzville

Founded in 1855, Wentzville’s first settlers were German craftsman and farmers and amongst them were William M. Allen and Erasmus Livingston Wentz. Allen was a great land owner who gave a tract of land along the railroad to establish a train station and create a community for area settlers. Livingston, a personal friend of Allen, supervised the construction of the railroad and assisted Allen in surveying the layout of the upcoming town and today Wentzville bears his name. From 1850 to 1880 the area soon filled with tobacco farmers and factories such as Liggett and Meyers, and many of the founding relatives can be found buried there today.
